BoxFX production studios

December 31, 2016

BoxFX is a creative, video and digital solutions studio based in St Albans (UK). Part of their work involves filming and also recording sound within their studio space. BoxFX contacted CM Acoustics for help with improving the room response as it had been noted that the rooms reverberation was sometimes being picked up on their recordings.

CM Acoustics carried out an initial site survey to test the rooms response and work out a best solution for improving the recording space, taking into account budgets and any limitations on available space for installation. Some of the reflection points within the room were used as 'green screens' for video production, this posed a problem for acoustic panel placement. CM Acoustics liaised with the studio operatives to offer a solution and it was decided that the main areas identified for acoustic treatment would be the studio ceiling as well as the remaining useable space on the side walls, around the filming and recording areas. Once the proposed plans where passed, manufacture of the acoustic treatment began and CM Acoustics arranged a date that best suited BoxFX for installation.

On the day of installation, all expensive recording equipment was removed from the installation area to any prevent damage as well as being covered to ensure that it was free from dust. The surfaces where acoustic treatment was being fitted was mostly made of concrete so cemented wall bolts where used to ensure a secure fix to the ceiling. Once all acoustic treatment was installed the customer was then invited to hear the difference. The customer was satisfied with the result. The area was then cleaned and put back to the clients requirements. This project was completed within budget and on time.
